I usually post on Mondays, but wanted to share this. Being around One7 for the last two years, I’ve seen, and heard about, a great amount of pain and heartbreak. The kids we work with are facing challenges every day, in school and at home. Something I always say is that everyone has a story. It’s true. Everyone does, and we should take the time to listen. I wrote this song entitled Story, with those thoughts in mind.
Story Copyright 2012 Chris Martin (verse one) There she sits all alone, a smile upon her face The girl in black, the rings and tats In this world, she's so out of place The other kids walk by, without a second glance They can't see that she's dying inside In this world, she just wants a chance (chorus) She wants to tell her story To anyone who will listen She wants to share her heart And find the love that she's been missin' All it takes is just a moment To step into someone else's life Everyone has a story Let's make sure it doesn't end tonight (verse two) On the edge of heartbreak, the pain is always real Even though there are no tears The smile doesn't show what she feels Don't be the one that walks by, without a second glance You can see that she's dying inside Be the one who gives her a chance (repeat chorus) (bridge) A broken home, her Daddy left last week She can't wipe away the tear stains on her cheek She has nowhere to turn, no hope in sight Be the answer to her prayers tonight (repeat chorus)

Thanks for sharing the poem. I will remember to see and hear the kids I will be with tomorrow. Thanks for looking in on my blog.
It really is so well written. Really we all appreciate your talent. Love this such a wonderfully written story!!!!
Thanks for stopping by and following my blog. Am checking out your site as well. Very interesting!
beautiful writer brother!
Loved the Line “On the edge of heartbreak, the pain is always real/Even though there are no tears”. A difficult moment beautifully portrayed.
Thank you for coming to visit.
So touching, Chris. We all need to be reminded that we need to take time with our fellow human beings, reach out, listen to their story, validating them as important. You’ve reminded us well. Betsy
Love this! I wish I could hear the music as well… so true about so many people in our world…
Blessings
I think that you have written a touching song that depicts a situation that happens many times a day. Seeing someone who needs to have a hand reaching out to make a difference in his/her life. Especially young people and children need that reassurance.
Chris, I was a teacher in the 80s-90s in public schools in small rural western towns with border gangs, poverty, kids from reservations and migrant working families. This poem/song made me think of my students and their families. I remember going to visit a family that lived under a large palo verde tree. I would never have guessed this because their children went to school clean and in pressed clothing. How they accomplished that I never fully learned but I so admired the folks who believed a good education was their child’s ticket into the larger society which, like your student, passed them by. Thanks
(; You have touched my heart. This can be so many in today’s world–my children, even me included (without the tats
). This has really touched my heart. Thank you.
Hi Chris, I loved your song and can hear a melody in my head. Wish I could transfer it to you. I read your work a lot since you liked one of my posts a while back. I nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger award. Even though I curse and I am not a Christian, I hear your words:)
Your heart speaks worthy words from the soul…God Bless!
Touching, but sadly true of so many young folks.
this is lovely!
do you have a tune to it? you should record it!
Beautiful…
This is so lovely Chris.May God help us to see beyond face-value; to give us discernment and the solution to the silent cries in the hearts of humanity all around us. God bless you!
Yeah Chris! So good. Loved opening: sits alone, a smile upon her face. speaks volumes
What a cool song! very deep and meaning full!………Paula x
A clear message for all of us. Thanks for the reminder!
I can definitely relate to her. We don’t have to have identical stories to have identical pain.
Your lyrics touched my heart Chris, and the message is loud and clear. May we all recognize when someone is hurting and needs our help, that we are there to give it.
Beautiful lyrics, very touching. =)
It often seems that the ones that are hurting the most are the most secretive about their pain. They mask it in gentleness or in boisterousness. May your wonderful poem alert us to reach out to someone who needs kindness.
Blessings ~ Wendy
Very beautiful lyrics, touched my heart <3
Really heartfelt. Good lyrics even better message
Wow, Chris. This was powerful. I too would love to hear these words put to music if you ever do that… Also, I am not one to post my own stuff in comments–that’s not what this is about–but both your words and the images that you brought to mind with your lyrics reminded me of a couple of recent posts I did. I think you may have seen them?

Thanks so much for sharing.
That was beautiful – why don’t you record it and upload it, so that we can not only read it, but hear it as well?
Many blessings to you!
Cheryl
Don’t have music to it. I need to hook up with a friend of mine who can play and write music. Thanks for stopping by
Chris
I think your songs are very good… and very meaningful… do you play an instrument or sing? your songs should be put to music… I would love to hear them…
Thanks for the follow Chris – I like your story.
Reblogged this on Dreams Will Catch You and commented:
Add your thoughts here… (optional)
Sadly, this song fits too many of our youth today. (And, some of our adults). God help us to be those second chances to hurting souls today!
Amen to that comment!
So, true
This is beautiful and so true – one can never tell by just looking at someone what they are truly going through. Thanks for the visit & the follow, I feel honored….
I understand the message, but not every word… Like “Glance”… More a poem…
“glance” means a quick look… sometimes translations can cause confusion
I thought “glance” meant “what my three-year-old niece calls that one knight from the King Arthur books that I read to her!”
